Texas A&M football made it a point to attack the transfer portal aggressively. With holes on the roster, Mike Elko and Co. have added 14 players, many of whom they believe can have an instant impact.
From a revamped wide receiver room to rebuilding the defensive line, the Aggies have been meticulous in their approach to talent acquisition.
Of course, there’s still time to add, with some players still available in the portal following spring practices commencing. But among the group committed to playing for the Aggies in 2025, which player is likely to exert the heaviest impact?
Let’s look at five prospects:
KC Concepcion, wide receiver
The Aggies’ highest-rated transfer comes at a crucial spot. KC Concepcion comes from North Carolina State and walks on campus as A&M’s sure-fire No. 1 wideout option. Concepcion finished his time at NC State with 124 receptions, 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns.
According to reports NC State transfer WR KC Concepcion has committed to Texas A&M.

Concepcion gives the Aggies a legitimate threat outside who is capable of stretching the field while also winning underneath and being tough after the catch.
Quarterback Marcel Reed‘s development will be crucial to the team’s success, and adding talent like Concepcion helps advance that progression forward. Last season’s top receiver, Noah Thomas, accumulated 574 yards and eight touchdowns on 39 receptions before leaving in the transfer portal for Georgia.
2. T.J. Searcy, EDGE
With the departures of Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart to the NFL draft, the Aggies were in need of pass rush help to complement Cashius Howell on the edge. They added four players across the defensive front, but none may have a bigger impact than T.J. Searcy.
The Georgia native appeared in 24 games for the Florida Gators, collecting 60 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 2½ sacks. Searcy is tough against the run, something both Scourton and Stewart excelled at, and has shown quality pass rush ability that can blossom in this Aggies system.
Earlier today Texas A&M gained 2 commitments from SEC defensive linemen.
Focusing on T.J. Searcy, I think the former Gator has a chance to be a big piece for the Aggies & I think they will use him better.

3. Julian Humphrey, cornerback
Will Lee III is set to be the Aggies’ CB1; that much is known. But with the loss of BJ Mayes due to expired eligibility and rehab questions surrounding Tyreek Chappell’s injury, A&M knew they had to add more talent on the outside to help them compete against SEC wideouts. The Aggies allowed 232.2 passing yards per game, 13th in the conference.
With the addition of Julian Humphrey, the Aggies have done just that. Humphrey spent his first two seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, appearing in 23 games. Humphrey was second on the team in coverage grade (69), second at his position in overall grade (69), first in catch percentage (min. 100 snaps) at 56% and second on the team in PBU’s with two.
Texas A&M’s newest CB, Julian Humphrey in 2024 (Per PFF):
– 2nd in cov. grade on team w/ 69
– 1st in catch% (min. 100 cov. snaps) at 56%
– 2nd on team in PBU’s w/ 2
– 5th (2nd at CB) in secondary in overall grade w/ 69 pic.twitter.com/MoPOKWR6kt— Tony Catalina (@Tony_Catalina) December 15, 2024
His tenure with the Bulldogs ended on a sour note, but with a fresh start in a defense that can use his abilities, Humphrey has a chance to be one of the best additions the Aggies made.
4. Tyler Onyedim, defensive lineman
A&M struggled to stop the run last season. The Aggies finished ninth in the SEC, surrendering 135.2 yards per game. With the loss of Shemar Turner to the NFL draft, an already questionable spot gets even dicier.
However, the Aggies added former Iowa State standout Tyler Onyedim who has a chance to be a day-one starter in the middle who has a knack for stopping the run.
Onyedim appeared in 40 games during his four seasons with the Cyclones and tallied 90 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Has a good motor, can play multiple spots & figures to be an important piece to the Aggies D-line.

Amari Niblack, tight end
The addition of Amari Niblack has many intriguing layers to it. The former Alabama Crimson Tide tight end turned Texas Longhorn has shown flashes of playmaking ability but has struggled to find an opportunity to consistently demonstrate it.
Niblack collected five receptions for 33 yards in 2024 for the Longhorns. But with the Tide, he had career-high production in 2023, finishing with 20 receptions, 327 yards and four touchdowns. The Aggies, as a unit in 2024, had 34 catches for 571 yards and three touchdowns among three players.
A Texas A&M player I’m bullish on in 2025 is Amari Niblack.
