Who doesn’t love a rematch? The Texas Longhorns will get another crack at the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the SEC Championship Game.
It sets up for a possible storybook beginning to the SEC era for the Longhorns. A win and an SEC title in the first year in the conference would go down in history. To do so, Texas must solve Georgia, the only team to beat UT all year.
Texas needed to beat the Texas A&M Aggies to advance to the title game. Georgia actually clinched its spot in the game last week via tiebreakers. Then the Bulldogs needed eight overtimes to shake off instate rival Georgia Tech. A loss in that game would have most likely meant that Georgia would have needed to win the SEC championship to get into the playoffs. But the ‘Dawgs won and now both teams should safely make it into the college football playoff, win or lose.
UT struggled the first time the two teams played. Georgia jumped out to a 23-0 lead in that game on Oct. 19 at halftime, before a furious third quarter Texas rally fell short. UGA won the game 30-15.
Texas was favored in that game, just like Texas is favored in this game. The ESPN match predictor says UT has a 61.5% chance of getting revenge against the Bulldogs. It is one of the lowest advantages of the year for Texas in the computer model. But the Disney super computers still favor the Horns.
