The rivalry between the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals is one of the best in college basketball, but it hasn’t looked that way in years. During the John Calipari era at Kentucky and the Rick Pitino era at Louisville, this rivalry was one of the best in the nation.
The Cardinals went through some rough patches, but now Louisville has a pretty darn good team, and it seems like this rivalry is fully back. This year, both Pat Kelsey at Louisville and Mark Pope at Kentucky have really good basketball teams, which should lead to the most fun game between these two coaches yet. Both home teams have won in this series so far, as Kentucky won two years ago in Rupp Arena and Louisville won last season in the KFC Yum Center.

This year’s game will be back in Rupp Arena, and Big Blue Nation really wants to see Pope’s team win this ball game. As you often see in rivalries, the two fan bases are arguing back and forth on social media about who has the better team, but in this case, it is somewhat close.

Before the Wildcats landed Mitchell, I think this argument was a lot closer, but now that he is in Lexington, I feel there is a pretty big gap between the Cats and Cards.
On The Field of 68 today, the comparison between these two rosters came up, and they also feel that Kentucky has a better roster this season. Here is what Rob Dauster of The Field of 68 had to say about the comparison of Kentucky’s roster to rival Louisville’s: “I think Louisville with Trimble is a top 10-15 team, and Kentucky is a top 5-10 team in the preseason rankings.”

I do believe that Seth Trimble is going to be eligible to play this season and that he will be good for Kelsey’s team. When these two teams face off this season, it is going to be a really good battle, but I think the Wildcats are just a little bit better, and with the home crowd at Rupp Arena helping as well, the Wildcats will be tough ot beat.

College basketball is better when this rivalry is competitive, and it is going to be that way this season. Kentucky has a massive lead in the all-time series over the Cardinals, but they want to take a 2-1 lead in the series between Pope and Kelsey.
