Who is Malachi Toney? Meet Carson Beck’s top target for Miami vs. Indiana?

by

Malachi Toney has made an immediate impact as a Miami football freshman, becoming Carson Beck‘s primary target right away.

Toney scored the Hurricanes’ first touchdown of the season against Notre Dame and has been a major part of Miami’s offense all season. He has at least four receptions in every game except one (a blowout win vs. Syracuse in which he had two catches, three carries and a touchdown pass) and logged 100 yards receiving four times.

Toney had five catches in each of Miami’s College Football Playoff games, with the winning touchdown against Texas A&M and a fourth-quarter score in a wild fourth quarter against Mississippi in the CFP semifinals.

Originally a Class of 2026 recruit at American Heritage School in Liberty City, Florida, the four-star player reclassified to join Miami in the 2025 class, picking the Hurricanes over a host of top-level programs. He led his team to a state championship in 2024, when he was named Florida’s Player of the Year by MaxPreps.
