Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner created a dynamic duo in the WNBA while playing for the Connecticut Sun.
The two complemented each other on and off the court in the five years together with the Sun, becoming engaged in 2023.
Thomas was cored by the Sun this offseason, meaning the unrestricted free agent could leave the organization only via trade. When Thomas signed off on heading to Phoenix, it was speculated that Bonner would have a full-circle moment in returning to the franchise that drafted her in 2009 with her fiancée. Instead, Bonner signed with the Indiana Fever and will reunite with former Sun coach Stephanie White, joining superstar Caitlin Clark.
Both players made it clear that they’re focused on their own careers, even if it means playing 1,700 miles away from each other.
“We’re both two different players,” Thomas said. “We approached this free agency as we both have our own careers, so her decision was her decision, and mine was mine.
“Either way, we support each other to the fullest.”
The couple last played against each other at the 2024 All-Star Game in Phoenix when Thomas represented Team USA and Bonner was on Team WNBA.

Even though Bonner elected not to return to Phoenix, she gave Thomas a primer on what to expect from Phoenix.
“She spoke so highly of this organization,” Thomas said. “She spent 10 years here, so she knows so much about the area.
“I got a crash course about this organization and she speaks so highly of the fan base and all the people here. I’m really excited to experience it.”
