It’s been a few years since Oregon landed an elite quarterback talent that was a high school prospect and not out of the transfer portal.
That trend came to an end Tuesday night as Chandler (AZ) four-star quarterback Will Mencl announced his commitment to the Ducks over Auburn and Penn State.

According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is ranked as the No. 89 recruit in the 2027 class, the No. 8 quarterback and the No. 2 player out of Arizona for the cycle.
Mencl is coming off his first full season as Chandler’s starting quarterback and did not disappoint.
Leading the Wolves to a 10-3 record, Mencl completed 70% of his passes for 3,815 yards and 33 touchdowns with only five interceptions. He was also a true dual-threat recording 741 yards and 17 touchdowns on 118 carries.
Mencl got his first varsity experience as a sophomore appearing in eight games for Chandler. He completed 71% of his passes that season for 1,058 yards and 11 touchdowns.
