The Syracuse men’s basketball season will not tip off until early November, but head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff are already planning for the future. That includes the recruiting process of players in the Classes of both 2027 and 2028. Over the weekend, a five-star prospect took to social media to announce he had received a scholarship offer from Syracuse.
A six-foot-six forward from Wilmington, Del., Collins is ranked as a five-star prospect according to 247 Sports. Along with Syracuse, Collins also holds offers from other Power Four conference schools, including Florida State, North Carolina State, South Carolina and Notre Dame.

It is still too early in the process to know if Collins will sign with the Orange. As a rising junior, Collins still has two more seasons of high school basketball before he embarks on a collegiate career. Collins has been active on social media sharing posts about his scholarship offer from the Orange.
Collins posted on the social media platform X: a photo with Otto the Orange saying “Syracuse Offered!!!”
Over the last 25 years, Syracuse has been able to sign multiple five-star prospects. The list is less than double-digit signees, but the group does feature multiple former NBA players.

In 2002, Carmelo Anthony signed with Syracuse as a five-star prospect from Oak Hill Academy. Anthony would go on to help lead Syracuse to a national championship in freshman season. Anthony left college after one season and began an incredible season in the NBA, most notably with the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks. He was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025.
In 2007, Donte Green and Jonny Flynn both signed with Syracuse as five-star prospects. Greene would leave Syracuse after one season and spent four seasons in the NBA. Flynn became one of the most popular players in the program’s history. After just two seasons in Central New York, including a BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Award, Flynn entered the NBA Draft. Flynn spent four seasons in the NBA also.
In recent years, Syracuse has landed five-star recruits in back-to-back seasons. Donnie Freeman and Sadiq White were both five-star recruits, according to 247 Sports. White signed as a five-star but his rating was later adjusted to being a four-star when his high school career finished.
White will be returning to Syracuse for his sophomore season while Freeman transferred to St. John’s and will miss all of the 2026-27 season due to an injury.
