Former Wisconsin guard Connor Essegian and the Nebraska Cornhuskers pulled off a statement road win over No. 16 Oregon on Sunday.
Essegian wasn’t a major factor in the result, finishing with just two points, a rebound, an assist and a steal on 0-for-three shooting and 0-for-two from three in 12 minutes of action. Two main contributors led Nebraska’s win: Forward Juwan Gary (23 points and five rebounds on six-of-10 shooting) and guard Brice Williams (28 points, seven rebounds and six assists on 10-of-19 shooting).

The win improves Nebraska to 14-8 on the season and 4-7 in Big Ten play. Importantly for Wisconsin, the Cornhuskers have now won two straight Quad 1 games (vs. No. 18 Illinois and at No. 16 Oregon) since losing to the Badgers on Jan. 26. Wisconsin’s 28-point win over Nebraska looks better and better as the days pass.
Nebraska also jumped to No. 50 in the NCAA NET Rankings with the result. While the team has a long way to go to breach the NET’s top 30, which would move Wisconsin’s win to the Quad 1 category, it is steady in the Quad 2 zone (30-to-75).
Essegian now averages 11 points and 2.6 rebounds on 41.2% shooting and 39.8% from three in 22.5 minutes of action. He is one of three Cornhuskers averaging double-figure points, along with Williams (19 points per game) and Gary (12.7).
The Wisconsin transfer took to social media after Sunday’s result to react to his team’s statement road victory, plus to highlight the respective performances of those top two scorers.
