The WNBA business is booming, with rapid expansion and wider television and streaming coverage on the horizon. On Thursday, the reigning WNBA champion New York Liberty announced they would break ground on an $80 million, 75,000-square-foot state-of-the-art practice facility located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, “overlooking Manhattan’s iconic skyline.”
The team’s press release noted the training center “underscores the organization’s dedication to providing its world-class players with unparalleled year-round resources that produce championship results and sustained success, developing groundbreaking investments throughout Brooklyn, and enabling community opportunities.”
The Liberty, one of the WNBA’s inaugural franchises established in 1997, won its first WNBA championship last season.
The practice facility is planned to include two full practice courts, an outdoor basketball court, a roof deck player dining area, an indoor and outdoor two-story strength training room, a recovery suite, an in-house player hair, nail, and makeup studio, two private family lounges with separate family and nursery areas.

The project also will include “revolutionary” locker room concepts where “each player will have their own private suite, equipped with a full height wardrobe and sneaker storage, a vanity with face-illuminating mirrors and lighting, and a seven-foot daybed for lounging and recovery.”

The Liberty’s ownership group will pay the construction costs, and the facility is projected to be completed in 2027.
