While there may be factions of WNBA fans who tend to diminish the accomplishments and talents of second-year Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, don’t count league general managers among them. On Thursday, as the new 2025 WNBA season is set to begin, the league released its poll of general managers, and Clark got a few mentions among the 40 questions the GMs were asked.
The biggest one: “If you were starting a franchise today and could sign any player in the WNBA, who would it be?”

Clark was the overhwelming winner, with 50% of the votes. A’ja Wilson, the reigning MVP, was second with 33% of the votes. It’s worth noting, of course, that Clark is 23 years old and Wilson is 28, which gives Clark a distinct advantage.

For the 2025 season, Clark got some attention as a potential MVP, and while the betting odds favor her, the GMs do not see it that way. They are picking Napheesa Collier of Minnesota by a 67% vote. Wilson is second at 25% and Clark third with 8%.
But Clark did pull off an impressive double-dip on the poll, as she finished in a tie for first on the question of who is the best point guard in the NBA, tied with the Aces’ Chelsea Gray at 50%. Clark did lead the WNBA and set a league record for assists last season, finishing with an average of 8.4 per game.
To complete the double, Clark was named the top shooting guard in the WNBA, with 33% of the vote. That edged out Kayla McBride of Minnesota and Sabrina Ionescu fo New York, who were at 25% each. Clark set a rookie record for 3-pointers made last season.

More important to Clark, though, is that the WNBA GMs foresee her Fever team as likely to be the most improved, with the acquistion of DeWanna Bonner tabbed the “most surprising” and the addition of Sophie Cunningham tied as the most underrated.
The Fever will begin their season on Saturday afternoon against Chicago.
