While her fit with these two stars continue to do wonders for the Fever, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes recently weighed in on the one iconic player she believes would be a perfect fit next to Clark on Indiana’s current roster.

Sheryl Swoopes Names Perfect Fit for Caitlin Clark
In a recent episode of her Women Hoops podcast, Swoopes was asked an intriguing question: if every current team could add one retired WNBA great, who would be the best fit? When it came to the Fever, Swoopes didn’t hesitate—she picked two-time MVP Elena Delle Donne as the ideal teammate for Clark.

“I’m bringing EDD to the Fever,” Swoopes said. “Here’s why, you have [Aliyah] Boston starting, you have [Natasha] Howard starting… When you put EDD in, she gives you a different look. Can you picture this: you’ve got Caitlin at the 1, Kelsey Mitchell on one wing and EDD on the other? That’s some buckets.”
Swoopes’ praise for Delle Donne comes with good reason. The seven-time All-Star has won nearly every individual accolade in the league, including the 2015 and 2019 WNBA MVP awards. She was one of the most efficient scorers the game has ever seen and her size, shooting, and basketball IQ would’ve perfectly complemented Clark’s court vision and perimeter gravity. For a Fever team built around spacing and ball movement, Delle Donne would have fit seamlessly alongside Mitchell and Boston.

Caitlin Clark and Elena Delle Donne Have Some Shared History
Long before entering the WNBA, Caitlin Clark had already been linked to Donne—at least in the record books. During her legendary collegiate run with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Clark reached the 2,000-point mark in her 75th game on December 21, 2022, tying Donne’s record as the fastest women’s player in NCAA DI history to reach that milestone.
After the game, Clark spoke highly of Donne and described how much she idolized the WNBA icon:

“Elena Delle Donne, she was a person I idolized growing up,” Clark said after eclipsing the milestone. “I have her shoes in my locker.”
Clark would also go on to eclipse Donne’s 3,039-point mark, ultimately becoming the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history—men’s or women’s— with 3,951 career points before transitioning to the WNBA.
