Her rookie year in Piscataway was interesting, to say the least.

McMiller announced that she was suspended hours before tip-off against USC, the biggest game on Rutgers’ schedule, due to what she said was a “coaches decision.” The Maryland native then sat out two games before making a return and dropping 33 points against Nebraska. However, McMiller ended up missing the final 10 games of the season, being listed “inactive” on pregame reports. Rutgers head coach Coquese Washington never gave an in-depth explanation of the absence. McMiller wasn’t seen on the bench for the final leg of the season. McMiller announced that she was transferring the day Rutgers had a WNIT game against The College of Charleston.

The 5-foot-8 guard from Life Center Academy in Burlington County averaged 18.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3 assists her freshman year through 21 games. She was chosen as All Big Ten honorable mention. She was the first high school basketball player to sign with the Jordan Brand. She garnered national recognition for her fancy handles, and scoring ability by players and celebrities. She was compared to NBA stars such as Kyrie Irving, Jamal Crawford and Allen Iverson.
