It is never a good sign when a player exits any game with a hamstring injury. And that is what happened in the first quarter of the 49ers’ game against the Chargers whenĀ
Green left the lineup.
Chargers rookie receiver Brenen Thompson, a fourth-round pick from Mississippi State, had a couple of steps on Green on a deep route. Former 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was off-target and the pass fell incomplete. But that is likely the play on which Green felt something in his hamstring.
49ers lose starting CB Renardo Green to injury against Chargers in preseason game (paywall)
“Tuesday’s joint practice with the Chargers saw the 49ers’ secondary get torched by two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert, whose lone series Thursday ended in a punt after six plays. Deommodore Lenoir, the starting cornerback opposite Green, played tight coverage on Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey ahead of a third-down incomplete that stalled the drive.”

49ers-Chargers Stock Report (paywall)
“Jaden Dugger: I don’t know how to evaluate him because it’s not clear that he would know how to evaluate himself. But there are times he makes spectacular plays happen because he’s so freakishly long and athletic. That said, they also look so spectacular because he’s frequently out of position. I’m in on the project. But it is a project.”
Grading the 49ers After their 41-17 Preseason Win Over the Chargers
“Carver Willis started at left guard and actually created some movement at the point of attack, which allowed the 49ers to run the ball behind him.”
Will this 49ers rookie class be the one? De’Zhaun Stribling, Kaelon Black shine against Chargers (paywall)
“Sometimes the 49ers did not need a third down, thanks to Black, a compact 5-foot-10, 208-pound back with the apparent power and verticality that once made Jordan Mason the most successfulĀ McCaffrey sidekick. Black had back-to-back runs of eight and nine yards, moving the sticks on his own, and advancing the offense into Chargers territory. The surprise third-round draft pick recorded a respectable 33 yards on eight carries in his preseason debut.”
49ers return their ‘bullies’ in Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenlaw
“I haven’t felt this good since about a month before the Super Bowl,” Greenlaw said. “It’s been just one [injury] after one after another, one after another. And I just been playing catch up the whole time. But now I just feel like I’m where I need to be now as far as just body, health wise, everything.”ā¦.According to left tackle Trent Williams, one of Samuel’s closest friends who was in contact with him weekly throughout his time in Washington, that could change this season. Samuel returned to the Niners in what Williams calls “probably the best shape I’ve seen him in since I’ve known him.”

49ers TE George Kittle received encouraging news from Dr. Neal ElAttrache
“The 49ers face the Rams exactly three weeks from Thursday night. The 49ers have been practicing about four times a week with two walk-throughs mixed in. But that has also included joint practices and preseason games. If Kittle returns to practice this Saturday, he’ll have about a week of practices to build his cardio.”
