The basketball world was on fire on Monday when news broke that the Chicago Sky traded star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream.
A former top-10 pick of the Sky in 2024, Reese was sent packing to Atlanta for a pair of first-round picks, one in 2027 and another in 2028.

Also included in the deal was the Dream having the right to swap second-rounders with the Sky in 2028.
In the immediate aftermath of the trade, Reese only reacted to it on social media, but she now gave her full reaction to landing in Atlanta in the blockbuster deal.

While in attendance at her Victoria Secret Campaign in New York City, Reese had the following to say about the trade:
“Yes! Atlanta Dream, what’s up? I really dreamed of this moment,” Reese said. “I’m just living in my Barbie Dreamhouse. I’m just having so much fun. Life is good, life is great and I’m excited for this new journey and this new city, and more to come.”

The trade is a big one for the Dream, a team that finished tied for the second-best record in the WNBA last season with the Las Vegas Aces. Atlanta finished just four games worse then the champion New York Liberty.
However, Atlanta saw a disappointing finish to its season after being bounced in the playoffs by the Indiana Fever. Now, the Dream will hope Reese can put them over the top in 2026.
Why the Sky traded Angel Reese

Reese’s relationship had deteriorated with the Sky over her two years with the team.
One big thing that aided in souring the relationship was the Sky firing former head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, who Reese was a huge fan of, something she said publicly.

“I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me,” Reese wrote.
The Sky did not improve in 2025 and Reese once again publicly voiced her frustration, this time over the team’s lack of talent on the roster.
“I’m not settling for the same [expletive] we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.”
She wasn’t wrong, but that’s also not something a team wants its star player saying publicly. Reese was later suspended and apologized for her comments.

Teams don’t just trade good players for no reason, so clearly the Sky felt things weren’t going to get better with the star forward, who had become bigger than the team itself. And, getting the kind of haul Chicago got certainly didn’t hurt, either.
