Just days before the annual spring game in Lane Stadium, the Virginia Tech Hokies picked up a big-time football commitment. On Tuesday, EDGE Xavier Perkins pledged to the Hokies, saying he was “1,000 committed” to Virginia Tech.
A 6-foot-2, 240-pound pass rusher from C.E. Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina, Perkins chose Virginia Tech over offers from Miami, Duke and Louisville. Throughout the year it appeared the Hurricanes were the frontrunners to land Perkins, but multiple visits to Blacksburg changed the momentum in favor of the Hokies.

Perkins was recently at Virginia Tech, which apparently put the Hokies over the top in his recruitment.
These are the types of battles Virginia Tech did not win until James Franklin’s arrival. Perkins is the fourth commitment for the 2027 recruiting class. All four commitments just happen to be on the defensive line, following EDGE Andrew Rogers, EDGE Alexander Taylor and DL Brock Frisby.
New defensive line coach Sean Spencer is also an elite recruiter with a history of developing players for the NFL.
Perkins is an excellent athlete, and while he may not have the length some prefer in an EDGE rusher, he’s explosive off the snap.

Franklin made restocking the trenches a priority. He’s done that and then some since arriving in November.
Welcome home, Xavier.
