Bennett King will return to Queensland as general manager of high performance, a role he previously held from 2019 to 2023.
King, who coached West Indies from 2004 to 2007 was coach of Queensland when they won a hat-trick of Sheffield Shield titles from 1999-2000 to 2001-02. He replaces former Queensland quick Joe Dawes who resigned last month a year after a public stoush with Usman Khawaja.
Salliann Beams, who is general manager of high performance at Tasmania, had also been in the running for the role.
“Bennett returns to Queensland Cricket as an experienced and highly respected leader in high-performance environments. To welcome him back at this point in our journey is a significant moment,” Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said.
“His appointment will strengthen relationships with domestic and international cricket stakeholders and bringing greater thought leadership and innovation to our programs to achieve a competitive advantage.”
Queensland’s men finished third in both the Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup last season while Brisbane Heat failed to make the BBL finals. The women’s side won the WNCL title, beating New South Wales in the final, but Heat finished bottom in the WBBL in a winless campaign.
