The Minnesota Lynx will enter the upcoming season with renewed optimism as they try to return to the WNBA Finals. They fell just a few games short last season after losing to the Phoenix Mercury, 3-1, in the second round of the playoffs.

The biggest concern, obviously, for the Lynx is Napheesa Collier. She is still recovering from the ankle injury she sustained in Game 3 against the Mercury.

Collier, who recently re-signed with the Lynx, has remained positive, even though she will likely miss the first few weeks of the new season.

According to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, the 29-year-old star is ready to take a major step in her recuperation.

“Napheesa Collier is expected to return to on-court basketball activities in early June, the Minnesota Lynx announced. She underwent surgery on her left ankle on March 24 after having surgery on her right ankle in early January,” reported Philippou on X.

Collier is coming off another impressive campaign, averaging a career-high 22.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks. She was a runner-up for MVP and was named to the All-WNBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team for the third time and second time, respectively. She earned her fifth selection to the All-Star Game and won as All-Star Game MVP.

With Collier out for their first several games, the Lynx will rely on Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, and Natasha Howard. There is also Olivia Miles, who Minnesota selected as the No. 2 pick in the WNBA Draft.

The Lynx finished with a 34-10 record last season, earning the top seed in the Western Conference for the second straight year.
