USC basketball is aggressively aiming to redeem itself from last season’s collapse. The Trojans already landed a former prized recruit from UConn. Now USC and head coach Eric Musselman reeled in a 17.9 points per game scorer out of Colgate.

Jalen Cox heads to the Land of Troy as the newest College Basketball Transfer portal addition. He’ll hand Musselman a new experienced scoring option.

Cox dropped 26 points on Lehigh in what became his final game with the Raiders. He also delivered three 30-point nights, two against Loyola Maryland during the regular season.

The 6-foot-3 guard can boost the 3-point game moving forward near Downtown L.A. Cox shot 36.5% from long range last season and 39.4 during his freshman season. Musselman gains a distributor too, as Cox improved his assists to 5.3 per game.

This becomes a homecoming for the past Colgate star, though. Cox is a Los Angeles native who played for Loyola High School, where he graduated in 2023. Cox played point guard for the Cubs but wasn’t the most highly-recruited out of the prep level.

But now Cox adds to what’s becoming a deeper backcourt ahead of the 2026-27 season. He’s also not the only prized newcomer here.

USC secured a massive College Basketball Recruiting win by landing five-star Christian Collins. Like Cox, Collins is another past local star who dominated at nearby St. John Bosco High in Bellflower.

The Trojans once looked like a lock to make March Madness, but stumbled to an eight-game losing streak and finished 18-14. Musselman likely heads to the hot seat next season, but adding Cox rises as a big step forward.
