Despite interest in the transfer portal from Iowa women’s basketball and an on-campus visit on April 13-14, former Western Illinois guard Raegan McCowan has revealed her commitment to the Houston Cougars with two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
Despite only playing 10 games last season due to a season-ending elbow injury, the two-time All-OVC star averaged 17.0 points on 47.8% shooting, to go along with 6.4 rebounds per game.

In her collegiate career, the 6-foot native of Lebanon, Mo., has averaged 20.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 46.5% from the field, 33.8% from 3-point range, and 78.6% from the free-throw line. McCowan averaged a team-leading 22.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game on 46.5% shooting while starting 34 games when healthy during the 2024-25 season.
While the Hawkeyes certainly would have loved to bring McCowan on board, Iowa’s recent trio of transfer portal acquisitions may have played a role in her decision to head to Houston, especially given the possibility of more immediate playing time with the Cougars.
The Hawkeyes’ current backcourt depth chart consists of point guard Chit-Chat Wright and fellow guards Taylor Stremlow, Dani Carnegie, Amari Whiting, Jocelyn Faison and Journey Houston.
