Duke basketball swooped up one of the biggest College Basketball Transfer Portal entries on April 21. Former Wisconsin guard John Blackwell adds a 19-point scorer for Jon Scheyer and company. Blackwell’s arrival adds to the NIL revenue in Durham too.

On3/Rivals pulled back the curtain on how much Duke’s roster will be Wednesday. The roster is set to hit $20 million or higher for the upcoming season. Plus, Duke flashed nearly $4 million to land Blackwell, On3/Rivals added.
The Blue Devils reeled in top five recruiting classes before the words “transfer portal” became intertwined. Scheyer proves he’s just as masterful of a recruiter as his predecessor Mike Krzyzewski. The 38-year-old landed names like Cooper Flagg and projected top five NBA Draft pick Cameron Boozer.
Blackwell rises as a massive veteran addition from Scheyer and the coaches, though. The Badgers star dipped into the portal back on April 6 but with a twist: He entered the draft waters too.
“I’m looking for a place where I can enhance my skills for the NBA and a place where I can compete for a national championship,” Blackwell told ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Borzello. “A place where that’s the standard and what we’re striving for.”

The shooter rises as Duke’s potential future No. 1 scoring option post Boozer. This could break a trend too, as the Blue Devils are often led by a blue chip recruit to lead the scoring charge.
Blackwell adds needed experience and a shooting touch, though, that this aspiring national title contender needs moving forward. He’ll spark preseason No. 1 chatter out in Durham.
