Texas Tech is dealing with a big challenge in its quarterback room, as Brendan Sorsby is currently under investigation for allegedly placing more than 10,000 online bets throughout his college career. The quarterback has already entered a residential treatment program while seeking help for gambling addiction.

Sorsby is attempting to preserve his eligibility for the 2026 college football season. If those efforts are unsuccessful, however, he would likely turn toward the NFL Supplemental Draft, where the Cleveland Browns are seen as a possible landing spot.
“The Browns are among the teams putting in work on Sorsby, per a source,” Tony Grossi said about the growing momentum in the situation.
According to an ESPN report, both the Indiana Gaming Commission and the Ohio Casino Control Commission are investigating Sorsby over allegations tied to wagers placed during his time at Indiana and later at Cincinnati. NCAA rules strictly prohibit student-athletes from betting on any NCAA-sanctioned sport, with punishments that can range from suspension to permanent ineligibility.
Sorsby reportedly made a large number of wagers across multiple betting platforms, but the bets themselves were reportedly for relatively small amounts. One of the biggest concerns stems from claims that he placed a bet involving an Indiana game while he was still a redshirt freshman before eventually transferring to Cincinnati.

However, some around the league believe the Browns may still seriously consider him because of his talent. In his four-year career between Indiana and Cincinnati, Sorsby connected on 594 of 968 passes with 60 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Several analysts believe he could become the highest-selected player in the Supplemental Draft in decades if he officially enters.
Sorsby’s legal battle might not be an issue for the Browns, as they have shown in the past that they are willing to take chances on players facing off-field controversies, including Deshaun Watson and Isaiah Bond. If the team ultimately decides to pursue Sorsby, it would be a new challenge to an already crowded quarterback room that currently features Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Taylen Green.
