As WNBA’s X post showed, Angel Reese scored inside during the Atlanta Dream’s 77-72 win over the Dallas Wings before breaking into a series of celebrations.
The play came as Reese scored over Odyssey Sims, who is much smaller than her, and then gestured toward the Dallas crowd as boos followed.
Reese finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds, giving Atlanta another physical interior performance as the Dream improved to 2-0.

That production matters, but it did not stop the celebration from becoming the main online talking point.
The layup itself was not especially dramatic. What made it viral was Reese flexing, signaling, and leaning into the reaction as if the play had carried a much bigger edge.

The criticism also became a wider complaint about modern basketball habits. One fan asked, “Why do basketball players celebrate a layup? It’s pathetic.”
Others focused on how many gestures Reese seemed to use after the score. One fan wrote, “She hit every celebration she could think of.” Another turned the moment into a video-game joke, saying, “She definitely hit every button on D-Pad.”
