Report: Guard Skyy Clark to ‘focus’ on professional basketball

by

It might be time to stop holding your breath for a Skyy Clark return to the UCLA Bruins. Aaron Heisen of the So Cal News Group reported on Friday that Clark is turning his focus towards his professional basketball career.

“Skyy Clark is “focusing” on his professional basketball career, a source close to Clark,” Heisen reported. “Clark had filed for a 5th year of eligibility and entered the transfer portal, but has now turned his attention elsewhere. This means UCLA lost ZERO scholarship players to the portal.”

Clark had appealed for an additional season of eligibility, with no decision on that appeal ever becoming public. Clark played just 13 games in his freshman season with Illinois while dealing with personal issues.

After the season at Illinois, and another at Louisville, Clark spent his final two college seasons with the Bruins under Mick Cronin. Clark started in 57 of his 60 games with UCLA, putting up 11.5 points per game this past season.

Clark helped stretch opposing defenses, shooting a career-best 42.7% from three on 4.8 attempts per game. In his final college season, Clark showed his toughness, returning from a hamstring injury and then chipping his front tooth in the NCAA Tournament, but remained in the game.

Now Clark will change his attention to pro basketball after entering the transfer portal earlier this offseason. Even though Clark wasn’t viewed as a star like Donovan Dent or Tyler Bilodeau, UCLA will have to work to replace his ability at the guard position.
