Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic believes Anthony Edwards may have indirectly sent a message to the Minnesota Timberwolves front office following the team’s playoff elimination against the San Antonio Spurs.

According to Thompson, Edwards’ postgame comments and overall demeanor suggested he recognizes Minnesota has fallen behind teams like San Antonio and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference hierarchy.

Thompson also speculated that Edwards could be signaling support for the Timberwolves to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster trade.

Although Edwards publicly defended the roster, he also hinted at frustration with the team’s inability to capitalize when defenses focused heavily on him.

“It was no struggle,” Edwards said of handling double teams. “Just trusting in my teammates, trusting in the next action we’re going to make something happen.”

Edwards added that Minnesota simply failed to convert enough scoring opportunities during Game 6.

“And I feel like we did, man. We just couldn’t make enough shots to win the game. I think that’s just what it came down to.”

Several Timberwolves starters struggled badly in the elimination loss, including Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, and Jaden McDaniels, who combined to shoot just 5-for-25 from the field.
