The Golden State Warriors are weighing whether to bring back two of their biggest frontcourt additions, with Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford both drawing interest from the team ahead of the offseason.
Will Simonds of NBC Sports Bay Area reported Saturday that the Warriors “have shown interest” in retaining both veterans. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. reinforced that stance, saying the team would “definitely love to have back” Horford and Porzingis after seeing what they added during the 2025-26 season.
That interest makes basketball sense. Golden State finished 37-45 and spent much of the season searching for size, shooting and lineup flexibility around Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, and both big men addressed those needs in different ways.
Porzingis, who turns 31 in August, is set to become an unrestricted free agent. In 15 games with Golden State this season, he averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while shooting 43.3% from the field and 31.1% from three-point range.
Horford’s case is different but just as important. The 39-year-old center has a player option worth $6 million for next season, and the Warriors view that decision as central to what happens next. In 45 games this season, he averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 36.1% from three.
Dunleavy highlighted Horford’s specific value, pointing to his size, shooting and leadership. For a team that leaned heavily on veteran decision-making, Horford’s ability to keep the offense organized and the floor spaced remained useful even as his role shifted.
