Andy Dobrzanski Drops Best Time in 100 Breast at Sun Devil Open
Andy Dobrzanski dropped a best time in the men’s 100 breaststroke at the Sun Devil Open on Saturday.
Dobrzanski went 1:00.49 to win the event at the long-course meters event in Tempe. He had started the three day meet on Friday by setting a best time of 27.64 in the 50 breast.
A battle of the Arizona State spring depth punctuated the final day of the meet. In the men’s 100 freestyle, Patrick Sammon bested the field with a time of 48.60 seconds. Five swimmers broke 50 seconds. Jonny Kulow followed in 49.45. Quin Seider was third in 49.55, followed by Remi Fabiani in 49.57 and Adam Chaney in 49.79.
Chaney won the 50 backstroke on Saturday in 25.09. In that race, Ilya Kharun set a best time of 26.17. Kharun on Sunday won the 200 butterfly with little resistance from the field, going 1:58.08.
Chaney was disqualified in the final of the 100 back, allowing Alex Desangles to win in 55.19 with JT Ewing second in 55.86.
On the women’s side, France’s Albane Cachot set a best time in the 50 fly on Sunday in 26.31. that bested Miriam Sheehan’s 27.14. Sheehan was second in the 100 fly, won by Julia Ullmann in 59.78, and second in the 100 back to Gerda Szilagyi. Szilagyi also won the 200 back in 2:14.27.
Cachot won the 100 free on Sunday in 54.37, besting Sheehan’s 56.58.
Filip Senc Samardzic won the 100 fly in 54.19 on Saturday, a race that did not include Kharun. The Canadian international also won the 50 fly in 24.15, edging Remi Fabiani’s 24.24. Joel Nace was second in the 100 fly, then second a best time in the 200 fly at 2:02.47 for second there.
Marie Wattel won the women’s 200 free, clocking in at 2:00.11. Grace Lindberg was second in a best time of 2:02.34, and she also set a PB of 2:18.95 to win the 200 fly on Sunday.
Grant House clocked in at 1:48.60 on Saturday to win the 200 free. Mattia Mauri followed in 1:50.29, .05 up on Tiago Behar and .15 ahead of Fabiani.
On Sunday, Ewing won the 200 back in 2:00.65. Brayden Taivassalo claimed the 200 breast in 2:18.60 over a best time from Reece Grady, who had won the 400 IM on Saturday.
