Neutral site non-conference tournaments have been a thing for decades in men’s and women’s college basketball, but we’re only getting more and more of them with the onset of the NIL era. Now, Indiana men’s basketball is linked to the latest one.
The “Diamond Cup,” is an eight-team event under discussion to be played starting in the 2027-28 season, per reporting from Matt Norlander of CBS Sports. The event is currently in the latter stages in the planning process, per Norlander’s reporting, and teams currently in conversations to play in the event include Indiana, Arizona, UConn, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan and North Carolina.

The event’s format is still under discussion, with more information in Norlander’s report, but scheduling could be interesting for Indiana given Michigan’s status as a fellow Big Ten member program and existing games against Kansas and Kentucky already on the Hoosiers’ non-conference schedule in the coming years.
Regardless, this is exactly the kind of big ticket event Indiana should find ways to be in and should give the Hoosiers plenty of early season resume building opportunities.
