Germany managed to put both their men’s and women’s recurve teams into the gold medal finals on Sunday at the European Outdoor Championships 2026.
“Our team especially works really hard for any tournament, said anchor Katharina Bauer. “I think we also have really good synergy within our team. We always have each other’s back, on and off the shooting line. It’s just a lot of fun to compete together.”
The women’s team of Bauer, Charline Schwarz and Elisa Tartler is the exact same team that competed and won bronze on home turf at the last European Championships two years ago in Essen.
The women will face Belarus for the gold medal, while the men will face Spain – both of whom beat the respective teams from hosts Türkiye in the semifinal. “We prepared for this the whole year and this championship was our main focus.” said Moritz Wieser. “We personally also dreamed of becoming the European champions and this dream continues.”
The compound men’s gold medal match will see France take on Slovenia, while the women’s will see the Netherlands face Italy.
The Netherlands team of Sanne de Laat and Mike Schloesser are also in the compound mixed team final against the Great Britain pairing of Ajay Scott and Ella Gibson. “When you’re the defending champion, you have one goal and that’s recapturing that glory.“ said Mike.
“We came here a week ago and were doing well during practice. But we of course work towards the future as well, with the Olympic games coming up. Me and [Sanne] go way back… It’s a bond that grew through the years while competing together on the highest level. We have one clear goal and that’s to work hard for LA28. So a common goal like that gives us a lot of faith in each other,” he added.
