Kyle Busch, who died Thursday, May 21, at age 41, did not tiptoe through his NASCAR career. His words were often as sharp as his driving, cutting team owners, fellow drivers, fans and media alike.
The two-time Cup Series champion claimed 63 victories and collected more than $200 million in prize money. He is the Truck Series’ all-time leader with 69 victories.

His on-track resume speaks for itself, but the way he handled a microphone turned him from just another champion into a lightning rod.

These are eight of the most memorable things Busch said to match the No. 8 car he drove in the final seasons of his career.
‘You never know when the last one is.’
After all the in-your-face quotes from Busch, this one is how he will be remembered. After winning his final Truck Series race on May 15, 2026, at Dover, Busch was asked why winning never gets old.
“Because you never know when the last one is,” Busch responded.

What a way to go out.
‘If you love you some Rowdy, let me hear you go booooooo.’
During driver introductions one year at Bristol Motor Speedway, Busch pulled out this classic. In embracing the role of villain, Busch assumed the role of Rowdy Burns from the Tom Cruise racing moving “Days of Thunder.”
‘If you don’t like that kind of racing, don’t even watch.’
Few drivers could flip from frustration to swagger as fast as Kyle Busch. After sending Kyle Larson into a spin on the way to a 2018 victory at Chicagoland Speedway, Busch had a message for angry fans.
“I don’t know what y’all are whining about,” Busch said. “If you don’t like that kind of racing, don’t even watch.”

‘You bring your friends with you, and you hate everybody else that’s there.”
Busch never cared what other drivers thought of his style of racing. During an April interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, he was asked if he has friends in NASCAR.
“You bring your friends with you, and you hate everybody else that’s there,” Busch said. “They’re your competition. Right? You want to beat those guys. You want to beat them into the ground.”
‘OK, psych major.’
Here’s another recent quote from Busch, who had a short fuse with his crew chief during a May 3 Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The crew chief tried to calm Busch after he clashed with a rival over the radio.

“OK, psych major,” Busch said to the crew chief. “That’s not what I’m talking about. Let’s keep it in one piece. That could have f—ing ruined our day, OK? It’s other people. I’m fine, all right? Put a bag of ice on your crotch.”
‘Freaking [R-word]. So stupid. I don’t understand these guys.’
The most serious controversy of Busch’s career came after he used the R-word. Busch made contact with Brad Keselowski on the last lap in the 2021 Cup Series playoffs.
“For what? For second place? To do what? He wasn’t going to transfer through with that. Freaking [R-word]. So stupid. I don’t understand these guys,” Busch said.

‘I’m just here so I don’t get fined.’
Busch echoed former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch in one of several prickly moments with media members.
“I’m just here so I don’t get fined,” Busch said after a frustrating 2019 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“I’m answering the dumbest f—ing questions over and over again. Am I good?”
‘I’d like to start by thanking … my girlfriend Eva … Erica, sorry.’
Busch made a hilarious mistake after his rookie season at the 2006 NASCAR Annual Awards Gala. He meant to thank his girlfriend, Erica, but ended up using the name of his brother Kurt’s wife.
“So first of, I’d like to start by thanking my mom, my dad, my grandmother, Kurt and my girlfriend, Eva … Erica, sorry,” Busch said. “Sorry, honey, Erica.”
