Terry Rozier allegedly accepted a $100,000 bribe to leave a 2023 game early as part of a gambling scheme, according to a new federal indictment filed Thursday against the former Hornets and Heat guard.
Prosecutors claim Rozier told Deniro Laster he would exit the Hornets’ March 23, 2023 game against the Pelicans in the first quarter, and Laster then shared that information with bettors.
The indictment adds charges of bribery in sporting contests and conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud. Rozier has denied any involvement.
According to prosecutors, Rozier used a leg injury as the reason for leaving the game and was set to receive $100,000, while bettors placed more than $258,700 on the under for his stats.
He played just over nine minutes, finishing with five points, four rebounds, and two assists.
The indictment states he ultimately received $70,000 because some bets lost after he grabbed four rebounds.
The filing came the same day Marves Fairley pleaded guilty in the case and admitted: “I agreed to pay a player to change their game performance,” according to The Athletic.
Rozier was previously among six people indicted in the wider NBA gambling investigation.
