LSU football schedules official visit for blue-chip defensive back

by

2027 defensive back Markez Davis will make his first trip to Baton Rouge this weekend, according to multiple sources. LSU football is hosting him for an official visit.

A native of Opelousas, LA, Davis plays high school football at Northwest High School. According to Rivals’ Industry Rankings, he is the No. 31-ranked recruit in Louisiana and No. 144 at his position of cornerback.

LSU is the only scheduled official visit for Davis and is the overwhelming favorite to land his commitment. Should he go with the Tigers, he would be the third Louisiana native to choose his home state school. Tight end Admad Hudson, quarterback Peyton Houston and athlete Braylon Calais also hail from Louisiana.

Landing homegrown talent became a fixture in the Tigers’ recruiting strategy under former head coach Brian Kelly. It appears Lane Kiffin is implying the same tactic in not letting some of the country’s highest-ranked players leave the state.

If LSU is going to land a top-three recruiting class, it starts with cleaning up in Louisiana.
