There has been a lot of good news surrounding Virginia Tech football lately. Head coach James Franklin has been busy since arriving in November, finishing with a top-25 recruiting class for 2026. In January, Franklin signed a heralded transfer portal class full of players who can help in 2026 and beyond. Most recently, the Hokies have been on a recruiting tear for 2027, and currently have a top-15 class, led by one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, Peter Bourque.
One of the players from the 2026 class, cornerback Amauri Polydor, was among the players who enrolled in January and participated in spring practice. The 6-foot-0, 187-pound freshman from Baltimore had an impressive spring, potentially pushing for a spot in the two-deep this fall.

Others are taking notice, too. On the most recent episode of the Inside ACCess podcast, ESPN college football writers David Hale and Andrea Hale named 10 freshmen to know for 2026. Polydor was among those players.
Jaquez White, a prized transfer from Troy, will earn one of VT’s starting cornerback jobs, with Isaiah Brown-Murray, Josh Clarke, JoJo Crim, Thomas Williams, Jahmari DeLoatch and Kenny Woseley Jr. also in the mix.
Franklin’s history suggests he often redshirts most true freshmen as they try to get acclimated to the college level. However, Franklin is about competition. The best players will play. Polydor opened eyes this spring and is clearly on the radar to play this fall.
