The Philadelphia 76ers have found their new head of basketball operations, with ESPN reporting that Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey has agreed to become the franchise’s President of Basketball Operations.

Gansey has spent more than a decade with the Cavaliers organization, steadily climbing through the front office after joining the team during the 2011-12 season.

His work in Cleveland ultimately led to his promotion to general manager in 2022, a role in which he helped construct one of the Eastern Conference’s top teams alongside team president Koby Altman.

According to ESPN, the search was led by Bob Myers, the former Golden State Warriors executive who played a key role in building four championship-winning teams.

Myers, who now serves as president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, was instrumental in bringing Gansey to Philadelphia.

Myers is expected to remain closely involved with the organization and will work alongside Gansey as the new executive begins shaping the franchise’s long-term direction.

The move marks a major career step for Gansey, who now takes over the top basketball operations role for a 76ers team looking to strengthen its position among the NBA’s contenders.
