With storms forecasted, Dana White says UFC Freedom 250 taking place ‘no matter what’

Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn of The White House will be the second time the fight promotion has held an event outdoor. The first, UFC 112, was held in an open-air, outdoor temporary concert arena in the Middle East on Yas Island.

UFC CEO Dana White has gone on record several times voicing his unwillingness to hold events outdoors citing weather as his main concern. As fate would have it, thunderstorms are forecasted for Sunday. But come hail or high water, the event will proceed.

“Listen, the show goes on on Sunday. No matter what happens, we’re going,” White said during Thursday’s UFC Freedom 250 Pre-Fight Press Conference . “I don’t care if it rains, snows, whatever happens we have a fight on Sunday.

“I’m sick and tired of hearing about the weather now and all the other bullsh*t surrounding this event. We are fighting on Sunday night on The White House lawn no matter what.”

The event is headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between champion Ilia Topuria and interim titleholder Justin Gaethje. According to Accuweather.com, it’s expected to be “hot and humid” in Washington D.C. on Sunday with the possibility of a “heavy thunderstorm late in the afternoon.” The chance of rain is estimated at 55 percent.
