You wouldn’t want to stunt the growth of Mykel Williams, Romello Height, and some of the other young defensive linemen. That’s not to say any of them are in the same stratosphere as Crosby. But if they get off to a hot start and look the part, why wouldn’t you continue to let them ascend as players?

Now if Mykel is still showing some effects from his injury last year, or if Height looks like a one-trick pony who can’t win, then Crosby would be one heck of a fallback option to have.”
