Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos is reportedly in a strong position to land wing Isaac Bonga this offseason, though the situation could change if the former NBA player receives a contract offer from an NBA team.
According to Sportando, Panathinaikos currently has the advantage in the race for Bonga’s signature as the club continues to explore ways to strengthen its roster for next season.
However, the player’s long-term future may ultimately depend on whether opportunities emerge from the NBA.
Bonga spent last season with Partizan Belgrade and played an important role for the Serbian club in EuroLeague competition.
The versatile wing averaged 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 38 EuroLeague appearances while establishing himself as one of Partizan’s most reliable two-way contributors.
His NBA ambitions were reportedly complicated last year by the terms of his contract.
Despite receiving interest from teams in North America, Partizan was said to have prevented Bonga from pursuing NBA opportunities because his deal did not include an in-season NBA exit clause.
The contract reportedly runs through 2027, giving the Serbian club significant control over his future.
Interest from the NBA has not disappeared, however. A Serbian media outlet reported in late April that the Detroit Pistons were considering Bonga as a potential addition for next season.
The 26-year-old previously spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors before rebuilding his value in Europe.
