Chicago’s struggles continued on Monday night as it shot just 23.3% in a 92-63 road thumping at the hands of the last-place Connecticut Sun. Kamilla Cardoso finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Sky while Azura Stevens scored 11 points and Sydney Taylor tossed in 10. Leading scorer Skylar Diggins went 0-of-7 on the night and scored three points.
The Fire return to court for the first time since a 94-89 win over the visiting Seattle Storm on June 17. Bridget Carleton hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and scored 24 points while Carle Leite went for 20 points and 10 assists. Portland came back from a 12-point deficit and took the lead when Emily Engstler knocked down a short turnaround fadeaway with 1:17 left.
The Sky won at Portland 98-83 back on May 9. Leite, day-to-day with an ankle injury, leads Portland with averages of 14.1 points and 5.6 assists while Carleton scores 13.8 points per game. Diggins averages 14.5 points and 4.6 assists for Chicago, with Cardoso putting up 13.1 points and 8.7 boards per game.
