The Italian archer Michele Frangilli has broken the 50+ recurve men’s qualification world record with a score of 680 for the 72 arrow 60m round.
The score was shot at the 2026 Frecchia D’Argento tournament at the Arcieri Voghera club in Voghera, Italy on Sunday 28 June. It beat the previous record of 678, set by fellow Italian Alvise Bertolini in 2011, by two points.
The mark, which is also a European record, is still subject to ratification.
The two 60m halves of 339 and 341 were shot in very high temperatures (39°C), and apparently despite minimal training due to his coaching work with the Italian federation.
Frangilli, who turned 50 just less than two months previously, joked afterwards that “he shot too many eights and will do better next time” – and said he intends to push the mark higher soon.
One of the most decorated European archers of all time, Michele’s long list of achievements include individual World Championship gold, three World Field titles, and team Olympic gold in 2012.
