On Friday, OKTAGON revealed Brito (19-6) has vacated his title in pursuit of proving his worth on the international stage. “Kaik Brito is no longer the welterweight champion,” OKTAGON wrote on social media Friday. “The Brazilian has decided to follow his dreams in his pursuit of becoming the best fighter in the world. We wish you the best of luck on your journey, Kaik! The welterweight championship belt is now officially vacant.”
Brito, 29, had a bout on the books for OKTAGON, scheduled for Sept. 12 vs. Amiran Gogoladze (18-3). However that bout has been scrapped and Brito will instead give DWCS a try for the second time in his career. Brito appeared on the show in 2023 and lost a unanimous decision to Oban Elliott. Since then, he’s gone 3-1 with all fights ending inside the distance.
