This week saw the Nittany Lions land one of their most important recruits to date in the 2028 cycle. Four-star quarterback James Armstrong not only represents the future of Penn State football, but also what it could mean for the class at large. Armstrong is a Pennsylvania native, meaning that Penn State and Matt Campbell are already doing better in terms of in state recruitment that with this year’s class.

Now, the Nittany Lions already have two Pennsylvania prospects on board in the class with four-star cornerback Deonte Flemings Jr. also committed. Now, these two could open up avenues for others in the class. Players like edge George Parkinson IV, receiver Jett Harrison, and athlete Jaden Jones now seem more attainable. As the top recruits in the state, the blue and white have reason to believe that more PA players will come to Happy Valley.

The most important part of this process is that Campbell will not succeed on all fronts. After all, casting a wide net is one thing, and having a player commit is another. Still, the intrigue of both Armstrong and Flemings committing to the Penn State project could turn heads amongst others within the state.
