Duke Continuing to be Viewed Below Florida in Early College Basketball Rankings

by

Right now, Duke has to feel it has a very good chance of winning a national championship next season.

Not that the Blue Devils are going in as the favorites, as many consider Florida the best team in America, and I do too, but outside of Florida, I don’t think there’s a better team in America than Duke.

A lot of that is because of who it brought in on both sides of the basketball, while other reasons are because of some of the returners it will bring back. Ultimately, Duke has a really good chance of winning a national title, which is why it was recently ranked second in the country in the early college basketball preseason rankings.

“Losing National Player of the Year forward Cameron Boozer is an obvious blow, along with the sharpshooting Evans. But the Blue Devils have been able to more than replace the outgoing talent, including another No. 1 incoming recruiting class. And yet outside of top-5 prospect Williams, the rest are likely coming off the bench.

“That could also include Cayden Boozer, who had a strong postseason campaign but may have to make way for Blackwell, one of the top scoring guards in the country. The defense should remain strong and there are multiple all-league candidates on the roster, along with a bevy of high-ceiling prospects,” Tristan Freeman wrote.

I bet Duke fans, at least at this point, are somewhat tired of hearing about preseason rankings. Ultimately, the team has to go out there and do a job, which is to win at a very high level in March Madness.

Outside of some slip-ups in March Madness and tough losses, Duke has won just as well as anybody in America. The hope is that will continue in March at some point, which Duke seems very likely to do if things go as planned.
