An introduction to Rock Chalk Talk

by

The Fourth of July has come and gone. Football season is right around the corner and basketball season is shortly after that.

What better time to begin talking about one of the better athletic programs in the nation?

That is what I will be doing as a new contributor to Rock Chalk Talk moving forward and I’m glad to be here.

Let me tell you a little about myself.

I am born and raised in the great state of New Jersey. From a young age, I developed a passion in sports and I have been lucky enough to turn it into a career as a sports writer.

Here at SB Nation, I began in 2020 at On The Banks covering Rutgers Athletics. I was then made site manager two years later. Now, I continue to contribute to OTB along with four other sites — BC Interruption (Boston College), The Only Colors (Michigan State), and VU Hoops (Villanova).

The next question you might be asking is what is my fandom with all of these sites at play? Despite starting at OTB, I am not a fan of Rutgers but with the university being in my home state, it made easy access to cover events.

However, I was excited to start at VU Hoops because I have been a fan of Villanova basketball since 2004. The reason I bring this up is because Villanova and Kansas have had some intense battles over the last decade.

I still remember watching the 2018 Final Four matchup in my sister’s apartment when Villanova set a new record for three-pointers made. On the other side, it was pure agony watching Ochai Agbaji and David McCormack not miss for 40 minutes when Kansas blew out Villanova in 2022.

Nonetheless, I have also rooted for Kansas basketball because of my love for Bill Self and a random fandom of players like Mario Chalmers, Cole Aldrich, Devonte’ Graham, and Thomas Robinson over the years.

On the gridiron, I do not root for a team. Ironically, as Kansas began to work its way out of the basement in the Big 12 under Lance Leipold in 2022, my two friends and I, with a gambling interest in mind, began following Kansas. We even named our group chat “Jayhawks Fan Club.” There were many Saturdays spent rooting for Jalon Daniels and Jason Bean.

So, what should you expect at RCT? Anything and everything.

I have received a breakdown of the site that the comment sections can talk about anything within Kansas sports and beyond. I have covered anything recruiting to news to games to video game rankings and beyond.

I am looking forward to getting this journey started here at RCT and will become even more excited as the weeks go on and we creep closer to football season.
