Conor McGregor responds to ‘f*cking bum’ Justin Gaethje: ‘Less of the disrespect’

LAS VEGAS – Justin Gaethje‘s call for a future fight with Conor McGregor doesn’t seem too promising.

On Wednesday, during the UFC 329 media day, McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) responded to the current UFC lightweight champion, saying he’d like to throw down now that he’s returned to MMA. McGregor, who fights Max Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 329, didn’t seem all that interested in returning to 155 pounds and fighting Gaethje.

“Join the queue, join the queue. There’s a few,” McGregor said. “Yeah, look, he has the lightweight belt, fair play to him. Holloway put him face down, ass up, though. Badly, badly face down. I’m not even thinking about it this time. Will I go down to lightweight again? Also is another thing I’m not so sure. I fancy the triple crown, so less of the disrespect, you f*cking bum.”

McGregor hinted at potentially looking to become the first-ever to win a UFC title in three different divisions with the “triple crown” comment. He’s already a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, and he’s facing Holloway at 170 pounds – a weight class he seems keen on continuing to fight in. Islam Makhachev is the current welterweight champion. He defends his belt against Ian Machado Garry on Aug. 15.

This bout with Holloway marks McGregor’s first fight since breaking his leg in his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. For the last five years, he’s been recovering from the injury. He was supposed to return in 2024 against Michael Chandler, but a broken toe forced him to withdraw from the bout.
