The Indiana Fever boast a 13-9 record halfway through the season. They remain in contention for a playoff spot, currently ranking fifth in the WNBA standings.
However, while the Fever have the second-best offensive rating in the WNBA (113.2), their defense continues to be a problem. They are ninth in defensive rating, ahead of only the six teams currently out of the playoff positions.

There have been several instances this season in which the Fever lost because of their defense. Indiana has scored over 100 points in seven games this campaign, but the team is only 3-4 in those matchups.
That being said, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham acknowledged that they still have a lot to work on if they want to be serious contenders.

“There’s a lot of stuff we have to clean up,” Cunningham said, per Tony East of The IX Sports. “We’re starting to get a little more consistency, which is great… I don’t think we have all clicked on the same level yet.”

While the Fever are far from the level they want to be at, Cunningham remains confident that the team can achieve it. And once they do, the WNBA veteran said that “it’s going to be scary.”
Head coach Stephanie White echoed a similar sentiment, pointing out that the “biggest thing” for the Fever is finding that consistency since they have already “shown flashes of really good things.”
The good news for the Fever is that they still have half of the season left to figure things out and improve their play before the WNBA playoffs start.
