The future of Verdigris football won’t be under the Friday night lights just yet.
Instead, it will begin this week with dozens of young athletes taking their first steps onto the field.
The Verdigris football program will host its annual Future Cardinal Football Camp on Thursday and Friday, July 16-17, giving boys entering first through sixth grades an opportunity to learn the game from Cardinal coaches and players.

The two-day camp will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. each day at the Verdigris High School football field.
Designed for players of all experience levels, the camp will focus on teaching football fundamentals while emphasizing skill development, teamwork and fun.
Organizers say whether a child is new to the sport or already has experience, the camp is intended to help young athletes build confidence while learning the basics of the game.
“Our coaches and players are excited to work with these young athletes and help inspire the next generation of Cardinals,” the program said in announcing the camp.

Campers should wear a T-shirt, shorts and cleats, with no pads or helmets required.
The registration fee is $30 cash.
In addition to instruction on football fundamentals, participants will have the opportunity to interact with current members of the Verdigris program as coaches continue building excitement for the upcoming season and investing in the next generation of Cardinal football players.
The camp comes as optimism continues to grow around the program.
Verdigris returns 18 of 22 starters from last season and is preparing for what many believe could be a memorable 2026 campaign, making the youth camp another opportunity to strengthen the foundation of Cardinal football for years to come.
