The meteoric rise that has been the recruitment of Bishop Moore 2028 linebacker Cale Britt has landed in Madison, Wis. On Wednesday, the 6-foot-3, 212-pounder committed to play for Wisconsin and he was pumped up about his decision.

Britt, the No. 13 player in the Sentinel’s Central Florida Super60, picked the Badgers over Michigan and Penn State from among his more than 35 FBS scholarship offers.

“Oh man, every time I hear the word Wisconsin it just makes me smile,” said Britt, who was swayed to become a Badger by the personal touch offered by Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell, defensive coordinator Mike Tressel, linebackers coach Tuf Borland and safeties coach Jack Cooper.

“They are just amazing guys. Everyone up there on the Wisconsin staff, when you walk by they already know who you are and they call you by your name and say,’ What’s up?’ ” Britt said. “The way I’ve been able to build the relationships that I have with those coaches is truly special. It will get even stronger as time goes on. I’m really excited.”

It was been a whirlwind experience for Britt, who had zero offers at this time last year.,

“Man, I think getting all of these offers has helped me so much as far as socially and like for public speaking,” Britt said.. “This is one of the biggest blessings of my life and I don’t take any part of it for granted. I think this genuinely is the right choice and I cannot wait to get back up there for a game.”

Britt, with his length and athletic ability, blew up on the scene as a sophomore, when he made the switch to defense from his former position of wide receiver/tight end. It was something that he was not happy about, at first.

“I wanted to play safety and when I saw linebacker I was just livid. I came home and I told my dad, ‘I don’t want to play football anymore. I don’t want to play linebacker,’ ” Britt said. “I was 175 pounds and I said, ‘Dad, this is ridiculous.’ But I put a little bit of weight on and I got up to 185 pounds. I played my sophomore year and fell in love with the position.

“My coaches told me I could play FBS, Big Ten .. they said, ‘You will be a top linebacker.’ I stuck with it and trusted the process and it all came true.”

His sudden success was something that surprised even himself, as the offers started to roll in. He was second on the team in tackles last season with 118 stops, including 3 sacks.

“I definitely was absolutely star-struck in the beginning,” Britt said of his recruiting attention. “At one point I even wondered if I would ever get any offers, but as time went on, I knew that I had earned them and I knew I had achieved that goal.

“I was definitely shook and so were my parents. It was crazy.”

Britt enjoyed receiving phone calls from coaches at schools like Alabama, Florida, FSU, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee, big-time schools in the world of college football.

“Every time I was able to get on a call with a college football coach, I think that’s just a blessing in and of itself,” Britt said. “It’s such a cool experience. To get on a call with a head coach of a team you see on TV all the time. That just does not happen every day. That was one of the cooler things.”

He has two seasons left at Bishop Moore, where he is teamed up with one of the best linebacker crews in the state. Blaze Allen is back for his senior season and he led the Class 3A state semifinalist in tackles last season with 125, and Giacomo SanFilippo, who transferred over from Winter Park this spring, is also a senior and already committed to Kansas State.

Allen is uncommitted, but the Hornets will have future Big Ten and Big 12 linebackers.

“It’s pretty crazy. I know Bishop Moore is always the underdogs, but I think we are slowly on the uprise and we’re showing that we have dawgs,” Britt said. “(Allen and SanFilippo) are both great guys and I’m excited to see us all work together this season.”

Linebacker actually runs in the family. Britt’s uncle, Jonathan Pollock, was a standout at Dr. Phillips (2012-15) and went on to play at Rutgers and then Youngstown State.

“It’s super cool. He’s a funny guy and he’s very energetic,” Britt said. “He helps a lot with me during football and whenever I need anything I can call him. It’s pretty cool having that knowledge in the family.”

It’s early in the process, but Britt said he can already see himself celebrating in the wild atmosphere of Camp Randall Stadium.

“I envision myself getting a sack and then the crowd going crazy and then in the third quarter listening to ‘Jump Around,’ ” Britt said.

He’s the first 2028 prospect in the Orlando area to choose a school, but he is strongly committed to his decision, and now looks forward to focusing on getting the Hornets back into the state championship picture.

“A big thing for me is that I want to focus on my high school team and that was a big part of why I wanted to commit early,” Britt said. “I want to focus on the state championship, because we have a very high chance of winning it … I want to be locked in. Committing to a school will take my mind off of that kind of stuff and really help me dial in.”
