The Los Angeles Sparks signed guard Tonie Morgan to a player development contract, the organization announced on Friday. Morgan was the No. 32 overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
“We’re excited to welcome Tonie to the Sparks organization,” said Sparks Assistant General Manager Zach Knowlton, per the Sparks’ press release. “She is a dynamic playmaker who has consistently demonstrated the ability to elevate those around her. Her competitiveness, court vision and feel for the game make her an excellent addition to our development program, and we look forward to helping her continue to grow.”
As part of the WNBA’s new collective bargaining agreement, teams are allowed to carry up to two developmental contract players. These players must have three or fewer years of service in the league and can be activated for up to 12 games per season.

Morgan Was A Standout Player for Kentucky
Morgan played her senior season at Kentucky after spending the first three seasons of her collegiate career with Georgia Tech. With the Wildcats, she averaged 13.8 points, 7.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 46.7 percent from the field across 36 games.
Morgan helped lead Kentucky to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament last season.

She finished her senior season with a nation-leading and program-record 286 total assists and ranked second in assists per game (7.94). Morgan was also named an All-SEC Second Team selection and Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year finalist last season.

The Sky ultimately waived Morgan on May 3 before their regular season opener. Since then, Morgan has been playing in the 3×3 Basketball Association. Now like Martin, she will have a chance to earn a standard WNBA contract with the Sparks this season.
