Alex Bowman’s full-time driving career in the NASCAR Cup Series is coming to an end soon. On Thursday, Hendrick Motorsports announced that Bowman has signed a one-year contract extension to remain in the No. 48 car before retiring after the 2027 Cup Series season.
The 33-year-old driver has been in NASCAR rumors for months after suffering vertigo at the beginning of the 2026 Cup Series season. Bowman, who replaced Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Hendrick Motorsports, has also dealt with other health issues over the last few years, including a concussion and back injury.

Bowman’s contract was up after the 2026 NASCAR season, so it was up to him whether to continue racing or not. Despite the injuries and down performances, Bowman will return with unfinished business. The driver of the No. 48 car hopes to go out with a bang by winning during the 2027 NASCAR season.
