Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark was named an All-Star starter and is hitting her stride heading into the WNBA’s 2026 All-Star Weekend. Indiana has won three games in a row, and one of them saw Clark score 45 points and dish out 10 assists.
Clark’s lethal precision passing the ball and her ability to shoot it from basically anywhere past the halfcourt line make her one of the biggest offensive threats the league has ever seen. However, Clark has yet to participate in the WNBA’s three-point contest.

This year, 2026 number one overall pick Azzi Fudd won the event after scoring a masterful 30 points in the final round. However, one writer for USA Today feels that Clark’s presence would do wonders to help uplift the league and is calling out her decision in his new piece, “Caitlin Clark snubbing the 3-point contest is bad for the WNBA.”
“When one of the sport’s biggest stars refuses to give the signature event of their most acclaimed skill a stamp of approval, it can eventually lose relevancy,” Prince J. Grimes wrote.
“Is it about health? That doesn’t seem likely. She’s played in the Fever’s last five games and plans to play in the actual all-star game,” he went on. “Is it about rest? Maybe, but two-time champ Sabrina Ionescu still made time for the contest in 2025 after a run to the finals, and wanted to defend her title this year. Is it a leverage play to get something out of the WNBA? Hmmm. One can only guess.
“Whatever it is feels calculated. But hopefully Clark gets to a point where she’s comfortable participating in the near future. These contests are only as good as the stars that make us show up.”

In reality, Clark has already made it clear why she’s rebuked the three-point contest, as she doesn’t regularly practice shooting off of ball racks, preferring instead to focus on real-game situations.
However, she hasn’t completely ruleld out the idea that she’ll ever participate, or even doing a contest against an NBA star such as Stephen Curry.
“I wouldn’t say it’s over until the thing happens,’’ a Sports Business Journal source told the outlet last year. “A lot of this stuff comes together very, very late.’’
