Perhaps no athlete on Earth has faced more ridiculous media coverage over the past 12-24 months than Caitlin Clark.
Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has faced all sorts of scrutiny. Despite being the most popular player in the WNBA, Clark has continuously had to answer for things outside of her control, like how some of her fellow WNBA players are treated and how she is officiated.

But the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft is getting fed up with it all. At All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, Clark sent a blunt “warning” to all of the WNBA reporters that cover her – and everyone else in media.
If you’re going to write about me, don’t question my character.
Clark is getting frustrated with columns and opinion pieces that would suggest the writers know what’s going on inside of her head.
“I think there’s just like a false characterization of who I am sometimes,” Clark said in a sit-down interview with ESPN. “And I get it, like as a reporter or as a blogger, you can write an opinion piece and that’s your job and whatever, but at the same time, you don’t know me. We’ve never had a conversation.

“I get people have a job to do, but at the same time, like don’t make accusations about my characters and who I am when you don’t know me.”
Clark is right to call out the ridiculous media coverage
Clark is right to stand up for herself. She’s far from the first athlete to deal with it – everyone in the huge, international spotlight does – but she also is learning a good lesson. If no one else is going to stand up for her, then she needs to stand up for herself.

Some athletes might prefer to just sit everything out, and try to ignore the noise, but that doesn’t always work.
In Clark’s case, the talk surrounding her has gotten so loud that it would be impossible to ignore. It’s right for her to speak out and question everyone that is writing about her.
The Indiana Fever star knows that she’s not going to stop people, but she can at least insert her own opinion into the conversation. And with a voice like hers, it’s good to speak out as much as she can.
